Our goal is to support young adults with learning difficulties using a wide range of person-centred activities designed to promote physical and mental development. We differ from many providers in that as well as delivering an indoor programme of essential life skills, we offer a range of adventurous and fun outdoor and indoor physical activities, supported by experienced, trained staff. Click on Physical Development to learn more about these.
Enabling Activities was established by us, Phil and Cathy Peplow, parents of Kelly, a fun-loving young lady with complex physical and learning disabilities. Despite these, Kelly has led an eventful life: she has walked in the Lake District, skied in the French Alps and cycled wherever there are hills and mountains throughout Europe. When Kelly was about to leave college, we found that there were no services capable of meeting her needs. We realised that only through flexible, professional and individualised support could she be fully engaged and so, in April 2016, Enabling Activities was born.
Enabling Activities offers a wide range of exciting physical opportunities, including climbing, cycling, ice-skating, sailing, skiing, swimming and trampolining, all delivered by qualified, experienced and committed Enablers. Our approach aims to empower the individual: if customers do not want to join in on a particular day, then they can choose a different activity. Having applied this approach to Kelly, we have found her behaviour has improved and her mental state has become more positive.
We understand because we are parents as well as providers and can work with you to create a individualised programme.
